Universal Dialog Awarded NSF SBIR Phase I Grant
Multilingual translation services company segues into cross language information retrieval technology
San Diego - January 17, 2003 - Universal Dialog, a provider of multilingual translation, localization and language management services, announced today that it has been awarded a Phase I SBIR grant from the National Science Foundation to evaluate its proprietary cross language information retrieval technology.
The proposed technology allows native language queries to initiate searches for foreign language documents. It will become part of Universal Dialog's Cross Language Information Extractor ("CLIE"), a system that returns native language summaries of the relevant foreign language documents retrieved in response to a query.
UDŐs CLIE product will target the markets of Cross-Language Communication, Taxonomy and Content Classification and Customer Relationship Management (CRM). Additionally, CLIE is anticipated to provide tremendous value to Department of Defense agencies and organizations, particularly Intelligence and Homeland Security. These markets have as a goal to make unstructured data easier to translate, search, correlate, retrieve, understand and analyze. CLIE will provide significant support with the added proprietary benefit of performing across several different languages.
Universal Dialog CEO Alexandra Briskin stated, "We are very pleased to be able to develop CLIE with the funding support and confidence of NSF. I believe we have the right combination of expertise in the multilingual translation services sector and proprietary technology to develop a system that provides critical and priceless value to our intelligence community- and significantly enhance enterprise software and search applications." Vice President of Business Development Dina Moskowitz added, "We are currently seeking strategic partners and investors interested in accelerating CLIE's R&D efforts and path to commercialization."

Universal Dialog Provides Spanish Translation for TurboTax® en Español
Multilingual translation company is increasingly servicing US customers who are targeting the large US Hispanic population.
San Diego - January 14, 2003 - Universal Dialog, a provider of multilingual translation, localization and language management services, announced today that it provided the Spanish translation services for Intuit's TurboTax® en Español tax preparation software and TurboTax® en Español state (California only) tax preparation software.
According to the US Census, as of March 2000 the Hispanic population within the United States was approximately 32.8 million Hispanics, representing 12 percent of the US population. There are more than 10.9 million Hispanics in California, representing more than 32 percent of the state's population. Universal Dialog CEO Alexandra Briskin states, "Intuit and many other of our translation services customers are wisely recognizing that the Hispanic population has substantial purchasing power in the United States. Their investment in Spanish translation for software interfaces, product packaging, operation manuals, advertising, customer relationship management and websites is increasingly important to expanding market share."
Ms. Briskin warns "For those companies who plan to market their products and services toward Hispanic and other non-English speaking populations, it is extremely important to ensure that all translations are performed by highly trained professionals within their market sector. As well, all cultural differences must be considered when preparing any communication in another language."
"Universal Dialog's translation expertise, editorial process and efficiency enabled us to rapidly develop this product line with the highest integrity and quality standards", notes Barry Saik, Director of Brand Marketing for TurboTax.
